Job Description: TRIO Transition Coach

The TRIO Transition Coach will serve as the primary transition coach for two TRIO programs: 50% Upward Bound, 50%
SSS. The role will work with UB high school seniors to help them navigate the college application and selection process
as well as the financial, academic, and personal challenges that come with the transition to college in the first year of
college. The position will heavily support the UB Summer Melt program for high school seniors, ensuring that they get to
their selected colleges with an accepted financial aid package, sensible room and board arrangements, a fall schedule that
makes sense given their major and learning styles, and introduction to the SSS office (or other institutional program
designed to help at-risk students) on their campus. The Transition Coach will work with Coker SSS students in their first
year of college. They will help recruit incoming freshmen into the SSS program, support the SSS Summer Bridge
program, and serve as the primary contact for new Coker freshmen in SSS. They will work to build a strong sense of
community among freshmen and encourage freshmen to utilize the resources available to them on campus, particularly
emphasizing the TRIO SSS workshops, peer mentoring, and leadership retreats.
Primary responsibilities include:
● Monitors progress of students in caseload with check-ins, scheduled meetings, and proactive outreach and
communication
● Responds to students' questions, concerns, and needs.
● Conducts academic coaching through individual or group sessions that help students assess their own
performance and develop academic success plans
● Assists students with processes related to admission, registration, financial aid, student accounts, and other related
topics, as needed
● Assists with the planning and implementation of UB Summer MELT and SSS Summer Bridge programs.
● Ensures effective outreach to students in a timely manner for important information (registration dates, drop/add,
FAFSA, Scholarship application dates, etc.)
● Other duties as assigned
Minimum qualifications include:
● Bachelor's degree (master's preferred) in Education, Higher Education, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field
and two years of professional experience in an educational setting.
Preferred qualifications include:
● Experience with the Upward Bound & SSS eligible student population
● Experience coordinating educational programs or events
● Experience working with overnight summer programs
● Experience with TRIO or other federally funded programs, including knowledge of services, objectives, and
