JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE

TRIO Upward Bound Academic Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY

The TRIO Upward Bound Academic Coordinator plays a vital role in enhancing the academic achievement of students enrolled in the TRIO Upward Bound program. This position is responsible for developing and implementing academic support services, facilitating workshops, and providing personalized academic advising to ensure participants are well prepared for their transition to post-secondary education.

This is a federal grant funded position and this position is contingent upon continued grant funding.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

  • Assist in developing, coordinating, and evaluating program activities aligned with TRIO Upward Bound goals.
  • Create and maintain a schedule of academic support services tailored to the needs of participants.
  • Provide academic advising, tutoring, and mentoring to help students improve their academic performance and develop college-going skills.
  • Organize workshops, college visits, summer programs, and other activities to promote college awareness and readiness.
  • Monitor student progress, maintain accurate records, and prepare reports for funding agencies and institutional stakeholders.
  • Foster strong relationships with students, parents, school personnel, and community partners to support student development.
  • Ensure compliance with federal regulations and TRIO program guidelines.
  • Assist students with college applications, financial aid processes, and scholarship opportunities.
  • Coordinate and facilitate staff and student training sessions.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive program environment that encourages student engagement and success.
  • Attend relevant local, regional and national professional meetings
  • Assist in evaluating in program effectiveness through data collection and analysis, preparing reports for funding agencies and stakeholders
  • Other duties as assigned for the TRIO director

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred in Education, Counseling, Social Work, or related field.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience working with diverse youth populations, particularly low-income and first-generation college students.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of college admission processes, financial aid, and student development theories.
  • Ability to motivate and mentor students effectively.
  • Familiarity with federal TRIO program regulations and reporting requirements is a plus.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and program evaluation methods.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
